Day 2

My ride today was a casual affair just to get the long journey out of my legs and although I was detoured by some major road works I stayed on roads that I knew, I didn't fancy getting lost on my first day. I was only 3 or 4 km into the ride when a young guy on a moped going by me, offered up his back wheel and kept waiting for me to jump on, but my legs certainly weren't ready for that so I waved him away with a smile of thanks.
Later in my ride I was passed by a junior, or possibly a lady, it can be hard to tell sometimes. The rider was tucked in behind the pacer, legs whirring. To digress slightly, when Hilda was a young lady and racing at her peak she often raced in men's races, well she was young but lady? but that's another story! I lost count of the times some bloke would say 'watch out sonny' or some such to her not realising she was a girl, she was a skinny little thing with a shortish haircut at the time of course.
At the moment I'm thinking I will race on Saturday, recover on Sunday, then race again on Monday. Saturday's race has a worrying 'Berg' prize listed, I didn't race anything with a hill last time and they are definitely not my favourite thing either, well we will see.
I'm definitely fitter and stronger this year over last, but whether that translates into results will depend on the racing, time will tell. For those that train with power I am 40 watts up on last year at threshold which for me is a gain of nearly 15%, I have worked extremely hard but I've raced fairly lightly so I know I need races now to bring on some 'form'. I expect the first 2 or 3 races to be very tough so I will just need to get through them to get some racing K's in my legs.
